The benefits of a Community Trademark are that it gives the owner of the registration an exclusive trademark right in all 27 countries of the European Union. The proprietor is entitled to prevent all third parties, who do not have his consent, from using in the course of trade the same or similar signs for identical or related goods and/or services as those protected by the CTM. The system of registration is not complex and also very attractive regarding the relatively low costs. Furthermore the administration of one or more CTM registrations is very simple.
An interesting aspect of a Community Trademark Registration is that it can be used for central registration with European Custom authorities to check and prevent on counterfeit goods from being imported into the European Union countries.
