It is usually difficult to predict how long it will take for an application to mature into a registration, because so many factors can affect the process. An applicant will receive a filing receipt at the day of filing. Important factors that determine the length of the procedure are the first examination, the moment of publication and whether or not oppositions are filed against an application.
Since May 2009 (when the procedure was simplified by the cancellation of the registration fees) the registration procedure has become much faster and it usually takes 8 to 10 months from application to registration (without office actions on issues of lack of distinctiveness or classification or oppositions by third parties).
